10 Dec IT’S MY BIKE at Digital 2018
7,000 visitors per day attended Digital 2018 on 7 and 8 November with around 100 lectures and debates on digitisation taking place at the Cologne Trade Fair. Deutsche Telekom AG used this format to develop a new platform to exchange digital ideas. The event will be held again in 2019. In addition to technical topics, the event focussed on specific customer experiences, leadership and transformation. Different speakers also centred on the Internet of Things.
On the second day of the event, Thomas Ullmann, Chief Technology Officer at IoT Venture GmbH, talked to attendees about the company’s IT’S MY BIKE application. IoT Venture has developed hardware, software and a data platform which converts e-bikes into an Internet of Things. More specifically, the start-up’s activities provide a whole service world for smart e-bikes. These include effective anti-theft protection, inexpensive insurance and an emergency alarm. The range will be further extended in the mid-term to feature a bike sharing system and notifications for maintenance intervals
“Our service range is based on the new narrow band technology NB-IoT, currently being rolled out by Deutsche Telekom AG. “And we’re launching the first commercial NB-IoT application onto the streets with IT’S MY BIKE.”
“The technology also offers a major differentiating factor to similar existing solutions which haven’t managed to establish themselves on the market due to cost or for technical reasons.” The radio standard excels thanks to low costs, deep building penetration and a wide range. Another benefit is that NB-IoT is based on a global 3GPP standard and uses existing networks.
In June, IoT Venture GmbH won the Digital Champions Award 2018 in the Digital Processes and Organisation category for the Midwest Region. Deutsche Telekom and Wirtschaftswoche magazine present this award on a yearly basis.
