Connectivity almost always reaches the table too late

The motor system has been selected. Fork, drivetrain, brakes and wheels are locked in. The product manager works through the BOM, and then comes the question: Are we actually Connected-ready? Surprisingly often, the answer is: not yet. Not because the technology is missing. Hiding a GPS tracker inside a bike frame is no longer a challenge. The real question starts much earlier, with what the connected bike is supposed to deliver for the brand.

Mario Petters

COO IoT Venture
»With most of the product managers we talk to, we see connectivity being addressed very late in the development process. By then, there is often simply no room left in the BOM, and above all, not enough time to set the system up properly.«

Why the effort pays off

3 out of 4
bikes are recovered and returned to their owner in theft cases handled through the IoT Venture Recovery Service
11 per cent
is the police clearance rate for bicycle theft, and that only means a suspect was identified
3 to 6 months
is what a complete connected strategy takes, depending on the starting point and scope
